Contacts link causing close down

Have been using Mail with no problem for a long while but just recently when I click on Contacts Mail or Tools/Windows Contacts - Mail just closes down.
I can still use create mail and it finds the Contacts with no problem - seems like some linkage problem
Any ideas?

Re: Contacts link causing close down

Did you install Outlook 2000? It can cause that problem.

Re: Contacts link causing close down

Just some extra info on this problem - prior to the close down of Mail I get the message "WiIndows Mail has stopped working".
I can still export the Contacts out of Mail but after doing so & when Contacts appears in the Start Menu if I click on the Contacts there it tells me that "Contacts has stopped working".

Please quote the message you are responding to.

Outlook 2002 may well be causing this problem, since it is not
fully compatible with Vista. Your choices are to uninstall
Outlook 2002, or else upgrade your Windows Mail to Windows

Re: Contacts link causing close down

Try renaming or deleting the wab32.dll and wab32res.dll files
in the C:\Windows\System32 directory. If no difference, search
for other occurrences of those files. If Windows Mail can't be
fixed, then use Windows Live Mail.

If Contacts in Windows Live Mail (WLM) is empty, do a one-time
import. In WLM: Open Contacts, press Alt to get the File menu,
then File, Import, "Address book for current Windows user".

Re: Contacts link causing close down

Explain to the rest of he family that Microsoft has virtually
abandoned Windows Mail, and no more upgrades
or bug fixes will be forthcoming.
Windows Live Mail has many improvements and fixes
compared to Windows Mail. For example, real-time spell
checking, auto-correction of commonly misspelled words,
auto-completion of recipients, etc.
