| | Window Mail Question. Okay. I go to a university and that is the email account I was wanting to use for my Window Mail. I can recieve all the emails that I get to my university account, however I cant sent them. This is the error I am recieving: The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Financial Aid Question', Account: 'pobox.winthrop.edu', Server: 'pobox.winthrop.edu', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E Also, when I recieve the email through Window Mail it deletes it from my inbox on my university account. How do I make it keep the emails in both the WIndow Mail and the university mail box? Help, if this makes sense!! |

| | Re: Window Mail Question. Your ISP will not permit you to connect to a port 25 SMTP server on a different network. For more on this topic see http://www.postcastserver.com/help/P..._Blocking.aspx There are four workarounds: 1. Use webmail for sending if your university has a provision for that. 2. Ask your school if they have a port other than '25' for SMTP. 3. Substitute the SMTP server belonging to your current connection (typically your home Internet connection). 4. If sending from multiple locations, get a free Gmail account, configure it for POP access, and use it for your sending chores. Gmail uses port 465 for SMTP, which is not blocked like port 25 is. To prevent Windows Mail from deleting messages from the server: Go to Tools, Accounts, select the account, Properties, Advanced, enable "Leave a copy of messages on server." -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP "Madison" <Madison@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:327EBB67-19AF-42F5-9DF8-79DBD8C6D4F9@xxxxxx Quote: > Okay. | | RE: Window Mail Question. You can send and receive mail to any other domain for which you have an account, but you have to go through your ISP in order to accomplish that. Here's how: In the account properties on the Servers tab put your University info in the Incoming (pop3). Put your ISP info in the Outgoing (smtp). Incoming Mail Server should show your University info and password. Outgoing Mail Server: make sure to check this box 'My Server Requires Authentication', click on Setting then click Log On Using (put your ISP info here). This will set you up to receive your University mail. Then do what Gary said about Leaving Mail on Server. If you use your ISP mail account too, then you will need to set up a separate account using all your ISP info as per their instructions. If you need more specific details let us know.
