| | Re: Importing outlook data from outlook 2003? A fix is, if you still have access to a Win XP machine is to import the mail from Outlook 2003 to Outlook Express. Then copy the "Outlook Express" mail folder to the Vista machine and import the mail from the "Outlook Express" folder. You can take in the "address book" the same way. Import to "Outlook Express" copy the WAB import into Windows Mail. My situation is this -- I've just made the transition from XP to Vista I really like to use Outlook for it's contacts, calendar, tasks, etc So I've reloaded the Outlook on my PC, but cannot figure out how to open my data file (Outlook.pst) file with the Outlook program running in Vista. I've got a tremendous amount of material in Outlook Tasks, Contacts, Calendar I need to get to. Thanks for your suggestions |

| | Re: Importing outlook data from outlook 2003? No, Dave, that will NOT help! If he does this, it will cost him plenty: A. He will lose the following information: 1. Custom Forms 2. Custom Views 3. Connections between contacts and activities 4. Received dates on mail 5. Birthdays and anniversaries in calendar 6. Journal connections 7. Distribution Lists B. He will probably corrupt the Outlook profile in use To do it correctly: 1. With Outlook closed, make a COPY of the .PST file in the old Outlook installation. 2. Take this copy to the new installation and put it in a folder where it will NOT overwrite any existing .PST files (overwriting a .PST also causes profile corruption). 4. Open Outlook and then open the copied .PST file using 'File|Open|Outlook Data File' 5. Drag and drop the contents of the old .PST file into the new .PST file created with the new Outlook profile, or set this copy as the default .PST and continue to use it.
