Windows mail shutting down and startaing up by itself.

Hi, Hope someone can help me - I have been using windows mail for a year
with no real problems but a few days ago it closed down while I was
trying to send and email and then restarted itself saying it had not
been closed down correctly last time and this may have been down to the
last message read - I have tried deleting messages but this just keeps
happening everytime I use it it is driving me mad - any one with any
suggestions I would greatly appreciate it!!

Re: Windows mail shutting down and startaing up by itself.

This problem is typically caused by running a non-compatible antivirus.
Norton, McAfee and Trend Micro antivirus programs are not compatible
with Windows Mail. Those should be uninstalled and replaced with a
more compatible antivirus. Acceptable free ones are:
AVG free edition:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
or
Avast free edition:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

With either of those, during the install phase you must select custom
install, and then deselect the email scanning option.

Another option is to upgrade Windows Mail to Windows Live
Mail. The latter is not so prone to bad effects from antivirus
programs.

Re: Windows mail shutting down and startaing up by itself.

If Garry's solution does not work you can suspect that there is a corrupt
file in the email Local Folders.

Try

Make sure Windows mail is not running, maybe restart the computer then do
the following.

1. Go to "C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail" and rename
the" Local Folders" to "_Local Folders"
2. Start Windows mail. This will recreate the "Local Folders"
3. Go To File -> Import -> Messages
4. Select Windows Mail 7 click next
5. Click Browse and navigate to
"C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\_Local Folders" and
Click Select
6. Mark "Selected Folders"
7. Select the folders you wish to Import, do not select the OUTBOX, Push and
hold the CTRL key to select more than one folder.
8. Click next "Wait and hope"

HTH

Dave

Thanks Gary and Dave - emails are up and running again - got rid of my
anti-virus and installed AVG - and everything is going fine. May need to
pick you brains again in the future though!

Regards
