Cannot Send messages, but can Receive (SMTP not responding)

This error message pops up everytime I try to send messages from Outbox:

Subject 'More Music', Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server:
'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number:
0x800CCC19

It tells me that the smtp server isnt responding and it ask if I want to
wait 60 sec for it to respond...of course after waiting, I still get nothing.
Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Are you sending from home, or are you on a laptop away from home
when you get that error?

Re: Cannot Send messages, but can Receive (SMTP not responding)

Then it is not readily apparent what the cause is. Perhaps you are running
a non-compatible antivirus. As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus
must be turned off. Which antivirus brand is it?

Re: Cannot Send messages, but can Receive (SMTP not responding)

In your case the problem is obvious. Most connectivity providers will not
allow you to use a port 25 SMTP server on another network. That policy
is explained here:
http://www.postcastserver.com/help/P..._Blocking.aspx

The simplest solution while traveling is to use webmail for sending.

Re: Cannot Send messages, but can Receive (SMTP not responding)

I use McAfee. I tried to disable the Email protection and send the messages,
but I still had no luck. I still get the message that my SMTP server isn't
responding and error message that looks like this (from home computer)

Subject 'More Music', Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server:
'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number:
0x800CCC19

Thanks.

Re: Cannot Send messages, but can Receive (SMTP not responding)

For many versions of the McAfee antivirus program, just disabling part
or all of the program is seldom enough. You usually have to uninstall
it instead. You then often have to run this cleanup program to take
care of what the uninstall left behind:

<http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=107083&lc=4105&partner=McAfee&type=TS&ia=1>

You may even need to remove your email account under Windows
Mail, then restart Windows Mail and add the account again.

If this cures your problem, you may want a replacement antivirus
program that doesn't cause such problems. Most versions of the
Norton antivirus program and a recent version of the Trend
antivirus program are bad choices; they also cause problems in
Windows Mail. I recommend either avast! or AVG, either one
with a custom install where you tell it to leave out the part that
scans email.
