Anti virus

I have uninstalled MacAfee and Windows Mail now works fine.

Do I need to install something else instead? My internet provider, British
Telecom, claim to filter my mail for virus and I have the Mailwasher spam
programme.

Re: Anti virus

An ant virus app is always recommended, however there is no need to except
the integration with your mail programme, which often causes problems. -
Avast & AVG have free versions.
Anti spyware/malaware apps also reccomended, eg SpyBot,, Adaware - free
versions

Re: Anti virus

Yes, Charles, you do need an anti virus application. While BT filter emails
going through 'their' server it is only filtering 'emails'. It will not
filter anything you download or any websites that may be infected. My ISP
(Virgin Media) also filters my emails, but it doesn't stop me getting
viruses from other sources, therefore, I always install a third party anti
virus application.

There are plenty of anti virus applications out there that you can buy.
However, I wouldn't recommend McAfee or Norton. Of the 'free' versions the
most recommended are AVG and Avast. I actually like AVG, it certainly has a
better, more user friendly, interface than Avast. You can get AVG from
http://free.grisoft.com and Avast from http://www.avast.com

Re: Anti virus

Kiwikat9, OneCare is another program that I would 'not' use. Having beta
tester every incarnation of OneCare, and, incidentally, used it myself, I
find it awkward, temperamental, and a law unto itself when it comes to
updating, so much so that I soon dumped it.

Re: Anti virus

Acceptable free antivirus programs are:
AVG free edition:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
or
Avast free edition:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

With either of those, during the install phase you must select custom
install, and then deselect the troublesome email scanning module.
