| | Outlook wants Setup when I start Windows Mail Hello, I have a fresh Vista machine and this is my first time using Vista. When I start Windows Mail, which seems to work fine, I eventually have to shut down 3 series of popup windows having to do with the installation of Microsoft Outlook 2007, which I do not want installed because, apparently, the version which came with my Vista Home Premium OEM is trial only and I can only start it a limited number of times before it expires (as I found out when I opened Word). In any case, I checked, and Windows Mail is set as my standard default program for email and newsgroups; I cannot make it the default because it already is. Does anyone know what is going on and what I must do to correct things? thank you |

| | Re: Outlook wants Setup when I start Windows Mail Apparently something went wrong during the uninstall of the trial version of Office or Outlook 2007. | | Re: Outlook wants Setup when I start Windows Mail OK, I can try that, once I can see my monitor properly -- the graphics card seems to be on the glitch. However, what does Outlook or Office 2007 to do with Windows Mail?? Isnt the latter property of Vista and the former something entirely different? thank you "Gary VanderMolen" wrote: Quote: > Apparently something went wrong during the uninstall of the trial > version of Office or Outlook 2007. > Use the following manual uninstall directions: > http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218 > -- > Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP > > > "onomastikon" <onomastikon@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:C3D589D7-29EF-4FE1-992C-FB034F4921C2@xxxxxx Quote: > > Hello, I have a fresh Vista machine and this is my first time using Vista. > > When I start Windows Mail, which seems to work fine, I eventually have to > > shut down 3 series of popup windows having to do with the installation of > > Microsoft Outlook 2007, which I do not want installed because, apparently, > > the version which came with my Vista Home Premium OEM is trial only and I can > > only start it a limited number of times before it expires (as I found out > > when I opened Word). > > In any case, I checked, and Windows Mail is set as my standard default > > program for email and newsgroups; I cannot make it the default because it > > already is. > > Does anyone know what is going on and what I must do to correct things? > > thank you |

| | Re: Outlook wants Setup when I start Windows Mail There is no direct linkage between the two. However, Outlook sets itself as the default email program, and sometimes even uninstalling Outlook does not correct that. So any link that needs to use an email program will cause the default email program (Outlook) to be called up. If the problem persists after doing the manual uninstall, do the following: Open the Default Programs applet, which you can access either from the Start menu or via the Control Panel, then click the first item: "Set your default programs." After a few seconds, a list of programs comes up. Click on Windows Mail. If it doesn't respond with "This program has all its defaults" then fix it by clicking on the option indicated by the first green arrow. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP "onomastikon" <onomastikon@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:A318057A-5B01-4EA6-AD3B-89D598059EA2@xxxxxx Quote: > OK, I can try that, once I can see my monitor properly -- the graphics card > seems to be on the glitch.
