To make Windows Mail try to send them sooner, click on Tools,
then Options, then Send. If there's no check mark in the box before
Send messages immediately, click on this box, then Apply. Click
on OK. You may have to restart Windows Mail one more time to
make this change take effect.

The box for immediate sending is already checked but I can't send, even if I
press the receive/send button.
It has no effect neither to send or to receive messages.

What if any antivirus programs do you have, and have you ever had a Norton
or McAfee antivirus program on that computer, even a trial version? Some
such programs cause assorted problems in Windows Mail, although seldom
immediately.

If you get any error messages when trying to send, right click on them and
copy the entire error messages to your next message.

Re: Can't send but at start

thanks for your quick answer.

My anti-virus is avast. I stopped it and it made no change.

I do not get any message.

I have planned to receive messages every 30mn. Even when I receive incoming
messages, the outgoing messages stay in the send box.

Hi,
I have a similar issue. Can't send at all, spent an hour on the phone with
ISP help desk, all settings are fine, uninstalled McAfee products as
suggested elsewhere and still can't send.

Most versions of the Norton antivirus program tend to cause problems in
Windows Mail, but seldom immediately. Just disabling part or all of the
Norton program seldom helps; you usually have to uninstall it instead.
You often then need to run this cleanup program to take care of what
the uninstall program leaves behind:

<http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039>

You may even have to remove your email account under Windows
Mail, then restart Windows Mail and add the account again.

After that, click on the Outbox and move any messages you find there
to the Drafts folder or delete them. If any refuse to do either, download
and install this hotfix with Windows Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether you have a 32-bit version
of Vista or a 64-bit version, try the hotfix for the 32-bit version first.
The Vista SP1 update includes this hotfix and more, but takes longer
to install.

If this solves your problem, you may want a replacement antivirus
program that doesn't cause such problems. Most versions of the
McAfee antivirus program and a recent version of the Trend
antivirus program are bad choices; they also cause problems in
Windows Mail. I recommend either avast! or AVG, either one with
a custom install where you tell it to leave out the part that scans email.

Re: Can't send but at start

If there is no error message when you press Send, then at least one
of the messages in the Outbox is stuck. To confirm this, open the
Outbox and try to move as many of those messages as you can to the
Drafts folder. If any won't move and can't be deleted, apply this
Microsoft fix:

Did you use the standard install for avast!? If so, it often helps to
uninstall it, then do a custom install where you tell it to leave out
the part that scans email.

http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Did you ever have a Norton or McAfee antivirus program on that
computer, even a free trial version? If so, their uninstall programs
often fail to remove the parts of those programs that cause problems
in Windows Mail.

It sometimes helps to tell Windows Mail to try sending messages
sooner. Click on Tools, then Options, then Send. If there's no
checkmark in the box before Send messages immediately, click on
this box, then Apply. Click on OK, then restart Windows Mail.
