Send mail is extremely slow

I have a new machine running Vista, and have just imported the messages and
address book from Outlook Express. Reading mail is fine, but it takes
several minutes to send mail -- CPU usage is 100% and the program is "not
respondidng." What is the problem?

What if any antivirus programs do you have? Some of them cause assorted
problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately.

I loaded in a lot of old messages and addresses from Outlook Express, but
have not installed any anti-virus software.

New computers often come with antivirus programs already installed, often
the problem-causing ones from Norton, McAfee, or Trend. Check again.
