download messages from mail server to multiple computers

Sometimes I use my desktop to retrieve email from my mail server. Sometimes
I use my laptop. How can I get each message to download to each computer? I
don't want multiple copies of an email on either computer--just one copy on
each.

Re: download messages from mail server to multiple computers

Go to Tools, Accounts, select the account, Properties, Advanced,
enable "Leave a copy of messages on server." Also select one or both
of the two associated 'remove' options.
Do this on both computers.

Re: download messages from mail server to multiple computers

My Windows Mail client on my laptop does not have a "Leave a copy of
messages on server" option nor any "Remove" option on the
Tools->Accounts->Properties->Advanced tab. (I'm using IMAP for download. My
desktop uses POP3.)

Re: download messages from mail server to multiple computers

Sorry, unless you specify otherwise, it is assumed we are
discussing standard POP accounts.
I don't use IMAP, so am not very acquainted with it.
I don't see how you can use IMAP and POP on the same
account.
