| | Re: Where are the files stored for e-mail? This has worked for me except for one issue; not all "my folders" are there. I would assume that maybe I deleted the folders which are not shown had i not just added one today - I created the "new folder" today for the purpose of storing the messages to disk however, I am unable to locate where these messages have gone. What could be the issue and is there a way for me to locate these emails? I am trying to clean out my school email and store the emails on disk; I am only half way through and I am showing that my email box is at its limit (which I also find odd). Thanks, Kerri "mac" wrote: Quote: > > "Mrkell54" <Mrkell54@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news:8C774D9E-E718-4336-84A9-A3950B12CA8F@xxxxxx Quote: > > Where are the files stored for e-mail in Vista 64-bit version? and are you > > able to transfer them back to a Win XP system? Record the directory name you find, then click Cancel, then Close, then Cancel again. Note that you'll have to enable the display of hidden and system files to actually see them. | | Re: Where are the files stored for e-mail? Often the cause of assorted odd problems in Windows Mail is a non-compatible antivirus. Which antivirus program are you running? Assuming you have your Folder Options configured to show hidden files, you can use Windows Explorer to navigate to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Local Folders, to see if the missing messages are there. Messages are identified by a filename ending in .eml. Except in an emergency, do not manipulate WM data files through Windows Explorer, because that is likely to corrupt the message database. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Brohdaw" <Brohdaw@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:B799560A-EDF2-40DD-BB21-A4C99BB47CEA@xxxxxx Quote: > This has worked for me except for one issue; not all "my folders" are there. > I would assume that maybe I deleted the folders which are not shown had i not > just added one today - I created the "new folder" today for the purpose of > storing the messages to disk however, I am unable to locate where these > messages have gone. I'm sorry but I guess I did not mention this other than a round-about way but that is what I did; I had looked up my files under "C:\Users\Kerri\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail and the folders are not there. And my hidden files are posted as 'show' "robertmiles@xxxxxx" wrote: Quote: > To see where the files are, click Tools, then Options, then Advanced, > then Maintenance, then Store Folder. | | Re: Where are the files stored for e-mail? Did you also set it to show system files, in case some of the files are marked both hidden and system? Also, if I remember correctly the folders are not set up as subdirectories of that directories. Instead, they are set up as files with filenames ending in .fol, which contain lists of pointers to the messages in that folder. | | Re: Where are the files stored for e-mail? lol...I'm not sure I understand enough about what I am doing to follow this answer. I went into "Folder Options" to check for "hidden files and folders" and "show hidden files and folders" is 'filled in.' I also went to C:\Users\Kerri\AppData\Local\Microsoft and right clicked on properties for the "windows mail" folder and that shows as "read only" --- the other option being "hidden" Yes, I did see a "lone" file that had .fol but I'm not sure what that second part of your reply means. Sorry, and thanks for trying to help...all this just to save some school files!
