Using different computers to access WM

I recently set up WM on my desktop using my AOL email account information. I can view email in AOL until WM refreshes and the emails are visible there as well. However, if I read the AOL mail first, it doesn't make it to WM. I also set up my laptop with WM using the same AOL account but I can't seem to see my emails there, unless of course, I intercept them just as they come in. Is there a way to see ALL my emails on WM on either computer? I don't care if I can't use AOL anymore but do want the ability to see my emails regardless of which computer I'm using. Am I supposed to save to a server? If so, which is considered the server?
    Thank you

For this, click on Tools, then Accounts, then your AOL email account,
then Advanced. If there is no checkmark in the box before Leave a
copy of messages on server, click on this box, then Apply. It's a good
idea to also select one of the remove options, then click Apply.
    Click OK, then Close.

Do the equivalent on your other computer also.

This should allow both computers to see any messages that arrive
after this setting change, although not the ones that arrived before
    the setting change.

I don't know if there is an equivalent for the web access to AOL.

Are you sure your AOL account is using the recommended protocol,
IMAP rather than POP? Your settings should agree with this:
    http://postmaster.aol.com/imap/express.html

Yes, the protocol is set to IMAP. I'll try what the other person suggested to see if that takes care of my issue. Thank you for responding.

My point was that the IMAP protocol was designed to keep all
computers using a given account perfectly synchronized,
meaning they all have the same messages.

On the advanced tab, under SERVER, the incoming mail is set to POP3, but it isn't a drop down. The rest of the settings are correct based on the link you gave me. Should I enter IMAP myself? I did select "save to the server" on both computers and it seems to work but don't know if I should the POP3 to IMAP.
    Thanks for all your help.

When changing the settings between POP3 and IMAP, you often have
to remove that email account, then restart Windows Mail and add the
account again with the other setting.

Not being computer savy, what is the difference between POP3 and IMAP?

Gmail has a pretty good explanation:

You can't change a POP3 account to an IMAP account.
Delete the POP3 account, then create a new account using
the IMAP settings given in that link below.
