I can receive mail but cannot send. I have been able to do both for 6 months
or more. Now it returns the following:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account:
'pop.comcast.net', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Apparently Comcast didn't advise you that they switched to port 587?

follow the last steps... starting with 10.

Hey Dave, I changed the port to 587, then this showed up (Partial):

Subject 'test', Account: 'Windows Mail', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net',
Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.1.0 Authentication required', Port:
587, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

On the Servers tab, make sure you check the box for "My server
requires authentication".

Just changing the port number is not sufficient. Look here to see if
you skipped any other steps:

Re: I can receive mail but cannot send. Vista and Comcast.net

Thanks for the help everybody. The main problem was the port number. If
Comcast notified me, I can't find any proof of it. Johnny

You didn't give enough details to be sure, but you might need this:

<http://help.comcast.net/content/faq/How-to-configure-Windows-Mail-for-Vista-to-use-port-587-for-sending-email>

Comcast has started requiring at least some of its users to do this,
without being very good at telling them in advance.
