Importing a CSV file

    Importing a CSV file

I am attempting to import a CSV file with my contacts. But when I click the
option to Import Contacts, a small window opens with a red X, no dialogue,
and an OK button. I'm stuck. Thank you for any assistance.

    Re: Importing a CSV file

    Try this:
Open the Default Programs applet, which you can access either from
the Start menu or via the Control Panel, then click the first item:
    "Set your default programs."
After a few seconds, a list of programs comes up. Click on "Windows
Contacts". If it doesn't respond with "This program has all its defaults"
then fix it by clicking on the option indicated by the first green arrow.

    Re: Importing a CSV file

    Hi Gary

I changed "This program has 4 of 5 defaults" to "This program has all its
defaults". Problem still there. Please note that I only used WM for a few
days last year before switching to WLM as my default. The contact folder
for WM, located in GreenPea/Contacts, is empty. There are no options in
this folder to add a contact or export.

Besides the original problem, when I click File/New/Contact---nothing
happens, except the drop-down options disappear. Do you think that WM may
be corrupt? I'm willing to overwrite the program if you give me detailed
instructions. I have a disc from Dell labeled Windows Vista, Home Premium.
    Thanks.

Try this. Open Windows Contacts. Right-click somewhere in that
empty white space to the far right. Select Customize This Folder,
click the little triangle, from the dropdown list select Contacts,
then Apply, OK, then close the Contacts window and open it again.

    Re: Importing a CSV file

    Hello again Gary,

Your last suggestion did produce a toolbar in the Contacts folder. However,
clicking on Import or Export tabs creates the same red X, no dialogue, OK
window. Clicking on the New Contact or New Contact Group tabs creates some
type of window that disappears within 1/10th of a second.

    Re: Importing a CSV file

I know of two possible causes for that symptom.

    1) If you have Outlook 2000 installed, it interferes with WM contacts.
    2) You are running a non-compatible antivirus program.

    Hi Gary,

I think you are getting close.

    I have Outlook 2000 installed!

Do you have a solution, short of uninstalling, and throwing away my old-but
    trusty Outlook 2000.

    Re: Importing a CSV file

Someone else posted a solution earlier. He said:
" Go into Outlook setup (running disk again) and select
"do not use Outlook for receiving emails. I use another program".

    I don't have Outlook 2000, so I can't verify that solution.

    Here is a different solution:
    There are two problem-causing files: wab32.dll & wab32res.dll.
First check that these two files are in the two following locations:
    1) C:\Windows\System32
    2) C:\Program Files\Common Files\System
Go into the C:\Windows\System32 folder and rename wab32.dll to
    wab32old.dll and wab32res.dll to wab32resold.dll.
Leave the ones in the other folder unchanged.

    Success!

    I used your *different* solution.

In the event I ever decide to delete or upgrade Outlook 2000, do you
recommend that I change the two files back to their original names?

Thanks again Gary. Your experience and expertise finally showed.
