For the past several days, any email messages that have file attachments have
disappeared after I've read them. Anyone know why?

Open the folder that should have those messages, and make sure your
Current View is set to "Show All Messages" instead of "Hide Read Messages".

If that does not solve the problem, which antivirus are you running?
