| | windows mail using comcast -- The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'b', Account: 'mail.bostonerotic.com (1)', Server: 'mail.bostonerotic.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E Why is this happening? I call comcast and they give me the run around even hang up from live support. Two weeks ago everything was fine then I cant send I was using SMPT default 25, switched to 26 to see if that helped then was told to use 587. I am at a total loss. |

| | Re: windows mail using comcast I don't know who told you to try port 587, but chances are that the mail.bostonerotic.com SMTP server will ONLY work with port 25, and Comcast will block your use of any port 25 SMTP server other than their own. To add insult to injury, I'm fairly certain that Comcast will insist that if you use their SMTP server you MUST use your @comcast.net email address. Most people don't realize all those limitations when they sign up for a cable ISP. The only workable solution I see for you: Get a free account with Gmail: http://gmail.com Then, configure that account for POP access: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...n&answer=13273 Then, add that account to your Windows Mail: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...y?answer=86383 That will give you a separate Gmail account (sending and receiving). You could ignore or disable its receiving capability and just use the send capability. Gmail's SMTP uses port 465 which is not blocked like port 25 is. I do have a G mail account and that is fine and works but I use mail king as a bulk mail provider and it does not support G mail. Like I said before port 25 worked fine before comast changed there port settings. Comcast changed there smpt settings, If I disconnect from Camcast I am able to send mail with the same settings. This is a Comcast issue who will not supply me with the correct answer do to lack of knowledge from there support team. I get a run around or disconnected.
