"Send and receive all" and email check problem

Hello, I have 4 email accounts set up in Windows Mail, each works fine and is
configured properly (correct password, servers, etc.) Each is marked to be
included when receiving mail or synchronizing. I can check and send mail
with each account successfully, but when I click the "Send/receive" button,
only two of the accounts are included and I get a blank error message (tells
me there is an error but the box is empty -- no message.) ALSO, I have
Windows Mail set up to automatically check for new mail every 10 minutes.
When it does so it ignores two of my accounts, checks the other two, and
gives me a blank error message.

Frustrating, of course. Any suggestions? My ISP is Roadrunner and I am
using Windows Vista Home Premium.

Thanks

Re: "Send and receive all" and email check problem

That type of error is often caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
For more information on why email scanning is bad, see

Thank you. I am running Trend Micro (at the strong suggestion of the Geek

Re: "Send and receive all" and email check problem

I suggest that, as a test, you uninstall Tend Micro. See if that makes
a difference in your Windows Mail. If no difference, you can always
reinstall.

Alternatively, consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because
it is less prone to suffering bad effects from overly aggressive
antivirus programs: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Re: "Send and receive all" and email check problem

Thanks, Gary, I will try that. I have Windows Live on my other computer
(becasue, for wahtever reason, perhaps that it is a 64 bit system) Windows
Mail just didn't work at all.) With Windows Live (on my other computer, also
running on Windows Vista Home Premium with Trend Micro anti-virus) I have no
problem accessing and downloading email, but when I click "Send": on any
message I create (new, reply, or forward) there is a significant delay, and
often a "not responding" message, before the message is finally sent.

Re: "Send and receive all" and email check problem

There should not be a delay.
Make sure any email scanning option in Trend Micro is turned off.
Email scanning is unnecessary and detrimental, as explained here:

Re: "Send and receive all" and email check problem

Thank you Gary. I guess I am, in fact, a duffus, because I have turned off
everything I can find short of uninstalling the antivirus completely.
Obviously I am missing something somewhere and have not turned offf
everything I need to. Can you give me any specific guidance?

Re: "Send and receive all" and email check problem

I don't have a copy of Trend Micro antivirus, so I have no way of
telling you where its settings are.
I can tell you that several Trend Micro users have posted here that they
obtained no relief of their Windows Mail problems until they uninstalled
Trend Micro.

Your other option, as I stated below, is to upgrade to WLM.

Re: "Send and receive all" and email check problem

It is not wise to run without any antivirus, except for brief test periods.

If you want, you can uninstall your antivirus and replace it with a more
compatible one. Of the free antivirus programs, the ones that are
compatible with Windows Mail are:

AVG free edition:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
or
Avast free edition:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

However, with either of those, during the install phase you must select
'custom' install, and then deselect the email scanning module so it won't install.

Instead of switching to a different antivirus, another option is to upgrade
to Windows Live Mail (WLM), which is more resistant to the adverse effects
of aggressive antivirus products: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Even with WLM, you must disable email scanning in the antivirus.
