| | Re: can't send emails with window live!!!! "SMTP" is not a valid mail server name. You must obtain the correct mail server name from your email service provider. They will typically have a web page with email setup instructions. If you need more help, tell us who your email service provider is. I see you posted with a Hotmail address. Is that your desired email address that you want to set up? If so, delete that account in Windows Live Mail, and start a new account setup (Tools, Accounts, New...), but this time allow the wizard to set up the server info automatically. Incidentally, future Windows Live Mail (WLM) questions should be posted in the WLM newsgroup: microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "lani" <lanieliesa@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:%23HwNXBzBJHA.5012@xxxxxx Quote: > hi....i've been trying to send email on window live but i always receive > this message....The host 'SMTP' could not be found. | | Re: can't send emails with window live!!!! Gary... I've seen your responses to many questions, so maybe you can help me. I use Windows Mail and last Friday it stopped sending out my messages. I've gone in and re-done the outgoing account information, but to no avail. Any thoughts on what might be going on? Thanks. "Gary VanderMolen" wrote: Quote: > "SMTP" is not a valid mail server name. | | Re: can't send emails with window live!!!! Hard to say without more details. Do you get an error message when you try to send? If so, right-click on the error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here. We can't do much troubleshooting without that complete error message. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Imlexicog" <Imlexicog@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:C5212DD0-C4E6-4A55-932D-D1A3C2362E43@xxxxxx Quote: > Gary... > > I've seen your responses to many questions, so maybe you can help me. | | Re: can't send emails with window live!!!! Sounds like you are doing a combined Send & Receive. To narrow the problem down, click on the little down-arrow next to the Send/Recv button, and select Send All. Does it do anything? Are there messages sitting in the Outbox folder? If so, open the Outbox folder. Move as many of the Outbox messages as you can to he Drafts folder. If any won't move or can't be deleted, apply this Microsoft fix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941090 Let us know if that fixed the problem. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Imlexicog" <Imlexicog@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:3264186B-1A55-4301-95CB-595EBE309986@xxxxxx Quote: > No error message...just a quick "checking for mail," it pulls the in mail and > goes off.... > > I'll have to keep searching.... > > thank you... > > > "Gary VanderMolen" wrote: > Quote: >> Hard to say without more details. | | Re: can't send emails with window live!!!! Gary, I just created my account with wlm. I can recieve emails but can't send out. I have attempted with the help of my isp to reswolve this through the accounts/propeties/servers routine to no avail. Please help! Don Here is the error: The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider. The rejected e-mail address was 'dmclaren@xxxxxx'. | | Re: can't send emails with window live!!!! Thanks for including the complete error message. It makes my job so much easier. :-) The problem is that dmclaren@xxxxxx is not a complete email address. The last part should be @quickclic.net. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Don McLaren" <Don McLaren@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:C757C2A5-AD71-4EEB-821A-2C70F305D0B6@xxxxxx Quote: > > Gary, > > I just created my account with wlm. I was ready to start doing reinstallations and all kinds of scary things that I don't know anything about. Thanks so much.
