| Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium | Re: VISTA WINDOWS MAIL ERROR MESSAGE No in that post there are instructions to fix the error as i have copied and pasted below. 1. Click "Start." 2. Select "Run" and type "cmd" (for Windows NT/2000/XP) or "command" (for Windows 95/98/ME). 3. Type "telnet," followed by your mail server (i.e. mail.yourdomain.com), followed by a space and then the number "25" (i.e. telnet mail.yourdomain.com 25) and hit "Enter." 4. If you are able to connect to the email server, you should see "220 lbsmtp1.mc1.stabletransit.com ESMTP lbsmtp1.mc1.stabletransit.com (Debian/GNU)." If you are still having issues and you are able to see this message, you can also check your firewall settings to ensure that it is not blocking port 25 access. 5. If you are not able to connect using telnet, or do not see the above message, please contact your ISP for additional assistance. They should be able to provide you with an alternative outgoing mail server to use. You should then be able to send email properly via your ISP's outgoing mail server. Many ISP's do this to prevent spam from originating in their networks or to thwart the spread of viruses. |

| Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium | Re: VISTA WINDOWS MAIL ERROR MESSAGE That is for fixing an error with port 25 though, your error is in port 995 so instead check out this link unable to receive or send email in window vista |

| | Re: VISTA WINDOWS MAIL ERROR MESSAGE Thanks for all this, marry. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to open the link below! I typed the URL into the URL box at the top, and I was toldd the address doesn't exist. (Yes, I did check my spelling.) | Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium | Re: VISTA WINDOWS MAIL ERROR MESSAGE hmmm that weird because I can still open it, well I'll see what, this was the solution that was proposed to the person who reported the same error as you: Quote: Well, if you look here, it does not instruct you to check SSL: http://www.charter.com/Visitors/Supp...ArticleID=1417 So, try to go to the Advanced tab in your email account's properties and uncheck there the use of a secure connection (SSL) for both servers. The port for the incoming mail server should then automatically revert to 110, and you should then be able to connect successfully. If not, please post back here! | | Re: VISTA WINDOWS MAIL ERROR MESSAGE Your POP server, 'pop-server.nyc.rr.com', responds on port 110, it does not respond on port 995. Why are you using 995 instead of 110? I find nothing in Road Runner's instructions indication you need to use port 995 and SSL: http://help.rr.com/hmsfaqs/e_vista_g...g+and+Services Setting Up Your Road Runner Email with Windows Mail Hal -- Hal Hostetler, CPBE -- hhh@xxxxxx Senior Engineer/MIS -- MS MVP-Print/Imaging -- WA7BGX http://www.kvoa.com -- "When News breaks, we fix it!" | | Re: VISTA WINDOWS MAIL ERROR MESSAGE I recommend you follow advice from long-time responders here who know their stuff. As Hal indicated, your problem is due to using port 995 with SSL when your mail server only supports port 110 with no SSL. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "tymcconnell" <tymcconnell@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:eEzxbvGCJHA.5012@xxxxxx Quote: > Quote: >> Hello, all: >> >> I'm having a problem on my new network computer. | | Re: VISTA WINDOWS MAIL ERROR MESSAGE This query has two topics: 1) OK. I have uninstalled Norton Symantec. I have turned on Windows Firewall. Do I have to install anything for "malware" from Norton? 2) I don't know if this new problem is related to that, but now, when I try to get online with my Internet Explorer, a message tells me that I'm working OFFLINE. I go to Tools and uncheck the Offline box and try again. But I can't connect to the Internet. The same messsage about working offline comes up again. What do I need to do to solve this problem?
