| Guest | Re: account setup Who is your email service provider? Or to ask that question another way, what is the part of your email address after the @ symbol? Your mail provider will typically have a web page that shows how to set up an email program. If you need more help, tell us the name of your email service provider. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Kevin Fleming" <kfleming@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:e9iiMrLCJHA.1816@xxxxxx Quote: > How do I get started? |

| Guest | Re: account setup Is your Yahoo account a free one? US-based free Yahoo accounts have webmail access only, no POP access. Windows Mail does not handle Yahoo webmail. There are three possible solutions: 1. How did you access Yahoo mail before? If you are happy with webmail via your browser, you can continue to use that. 2. Pay Yahoo to get their premium "Mail Plus" service: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mai...iew/index.html and use the special settings for that service: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mai...op/pop-14.html 3. Another option is called YPOPs. It is free, but requires some technical knowledge to implement: http://ypopsemail.com/documentation/...dows-live-mail -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "keppslaury" <keppslaury@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:25A4D0EA-7E1A-4AC8-85F8-6F2A7E718B49@xxxxxx Quote: > my provider is yahoo. it keeps saying invalid user id/password and I know > that is not true > > "Gary VanderMolen" wrote: > Quote: >> Who is your email service provider? | Guest | Re: account setup If you are sure you are using the correct username and password, one possible cause for that error is account corruption. One thing you might try as a possible quick fix is to delete that corrupted account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate that mail account. If that doesn't fix it, more drastic measures will have to be taken. Which antivirus are you running? As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off, although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects. In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled. If turning off the email scanning function does not resolve your problem, consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects from overly aggressive antivirus programs. http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons explained here: http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tuto...ning/index.htm -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Annette Zissel" <Annette Zissel@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:8DD61F6D-FC6C-40D8-9B67-696DB0E5A41B@xxxxxx Quote: > Hello, > I have a similar problem with my vodafone account. | Guest | Re: account setup Yes, I'm 100% sure in using the correct username and password, as it works by logging in to the vodafone webpage. I've deleted and re-created the account in Windows mail several times with no result. I've deleted McAfee from my laptop and tried again. I've updated to Windows live mail and created there a new account. Still the same problem: User name or password cannot be recognized.
