SMTP Server Host Not Responding

I have been troubleshooting based on reading past posts about similar
problems, but have run out of ideas would please appreciate some assistance.
Windows Mail e-mail was working fine until today; but now I cannot send or
receive without errors. It has worked briefly but not for more than a few
minutes. Every minute, I receive a message saying "Your SMTP server has not
responded in 60 seconds...." and lists my Account and Server. I receive the
following error when trying to send e-mail. I replaced my acct and server
info w/generic for this submission:
"The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Read: Test again',
Account: 'mail.company.com.com', Server: 'mail.company.com', Protocol: SMTP,
Port: 1025, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E"
I just disabled some protections on my TrendMicro security. I have Charter
high speed and wireless router, both of which I have reset, turned off and
unplugged/replugged several times. I changed the outgoing port from 25 to
1025 several times; it was recommended by my Web/e-mail host upon setup to
use 1025.
Also, when trying to send an e-mail to myself at one point, Windows Mail
requested a read receipt, which is not a feature I have enabled on my system.
Please help! Thank you.

Re: SMTP Server Host Not Responding

Your first order of business would have to be a complete uninstall of Trend Micro.
It is not compatible with Windows Mail.
You may have other mail problems besides that, but the antivirus effects
are masking the other issues.

Instead of uninstalling your antivirus, another option is to upgrade to Windows
Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of aggressive antivirus
products: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

In any case you must disable any antivirus email scanning, for the reason
explained here:

Re: SMTP Server Host Not Responding

Thank you. I'll work on it. What's the best antivirus to use with Vista?

Re: SMTP Server Host Not Responding

You can keep Trend Micro if you switch to Windows Live Mail.
If you stay with Windows Mail, switch to one of the free antivirus
programs that are compatible with Windows Mail:

AVG free edition:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
or
Avast free edition:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

However, with either of those, during the install phase you must select
'custom' install, and then deselect the email scanning module so it won't install.
