can receive mail but not send.

I see there have been other posts with this same heading, but I still haven't
found a solution that works.

I was using Outlook Express on my old computer and my husband was using
Windows Mail on his computer. We had both been sending and receiving mail
without problems. Then one day we went in to do emails and neither of us
could send anything. None of the setting had changed. Last week I set up my
new computer using Vista Windows Mail (same as his), double checked the ATT
site just to make sure I had all the settings as thet require. We are still
both receiving mail with no problem, but cannot send. Here is the error
message we are receiving:

"An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'test msg', Account:
'mail.bellsouth.net', Server: 'mail.bellsouth.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server
Response: '421 Cannot connect to SMTP server 204.127.217.17
(204.127.217.17:25), connect error 10060', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server
Error: 421, Error Number: 0x800CCC67"

Any suggesstions would be appreciated. Just don't understand why it would be
working one day and not the next when we did not change any of the settings.

Re: can receive mail but not send.

I tried to telnet to mail.bellsouth.net port 25, and can't connect.

So it appears to be a server problem, but you should call them to find out
if there is a problem or if they've changed something.

Re: can receive mail but not send.

Wrong port number, should be 465 instead of 25. Please see the following to
correct your settings:

Re: can receive mail but not send.

I got the same telnet failure to connect on port 25.
Strange in that BellSouth's instructions still call for using port 25:

Re: can receive mail but not send.

There is some confusion as to whether AT&T's new settings apply to their BellSouth
customers. At least one BellSouth help page still recommends the old settings:

Re: can receive mail but not send.

I am additional user with the same set of problems. Unable to send email from
Windows Mail on Vista Business. Sudden onset, unresponsive to removal of ESET
security software, deleting and recreating email user accounts, or removing
firewall.

Windows Mail Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
AT&T DSL. Yahoo! email provider. Correct settings [trust me.]
No resolution from ESET support or AT&T chat. seems to be another Microsoft
issue.

[There seem to be quite a few related postings of this problem, and
particularly from AT&T subscribers.]

Any suggestions?

Re: can receive mail but not send.

We seem to be getting a slew of AT&T Yahoo mail sending failures.
Not sure what's going on. If you get an error message when you try to
send, right-click on the error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without that complete error message.

We seem to be getting a slew of AT&T Yahoo mail sending failures.
Not sure what's going on. If you get an error message when you try to
send, right-click on the error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without that complete error message.
