SMTP server not responding

When I send an email with attached pictures or movies, I get this message:
"Your SMTP server has not responded in 60 seconds. Would you like to wait
another 60 secondes for the server to respond?"
I have to hit that 'wait' button over and over for nearly an hour before the
message leaves my outbox.
I have Roadrunner service.
Acct: pop-server.new.rr.com
Server: smtp-server.new.rr.com

Re: SMTP server not responding

How large is the attachment? Make sure you are not exceeding the
limit set by your ISP.

Another reason for a server time-out is your antivirus program.
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.

If turning off your antivirus email scanning function does not resolve
your problem, consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it
is less prone to suffering bad effects from overly intrusive antivirus
programs: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

Re: SMTP server not responding

What size attachment are you sending? Make sure it does not exceed
the limit set by RoadRunner.

Also, which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off your antivirus email scanning function does not resolve
your problem, consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it
is less prone to suffering bad effects from overly intrusive antivirus
programs: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview
