    Windows Mail Problem

computer came pre-installed with vista home prem. ... harddrive failed and
vista was reinstalled on a new hd... windows mail is set to check for
messages every minute while it is open - if a new message is found it is
downloaded, shows notification that it came in successfully, but will not
physically appear in the inbox until windows mail is closed and reopened.
views are set to show all, no rules are created - the message DOES download
into the inbox ... upon a restart of WM program, it checks for emails and
returns with "no new messages". Any idea/suggestions why the email brought in
when WM is active does not appear???

    Re: Windows Mail Problem

The usual cause for odd symptoms in Windows Mail is a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off your antivirus email scanning function does not resolve
your problem, consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it
is less prone to suffering bad effects from overly intrusive antivirus
    programs: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
    explained here:
    http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tuto...ning/index.htm

Incidentally, checking your email as frequently as once every minute
may cause the mailbox on the server to 'hang'. The minimum safe
    checking interval is 5 minutes.

    Re: Windows Mail Problem

Just started doing this by itself - worked fine with Norton & the email
    scanner on before.
Windows live is not an "upgrade" as far as I am concerned - there are
features in Mail that are not available in Live.

    Re: Windows Mail Problem

    Which features would that be?
There are quite a few features in Windows Live Mail that don't exist
in Windows Mail. The latest WLMail beta even has an integrated
    calendar.
