| | Previously working e-mail accounts not working in new Windows Mail very strange, I know! I have several e-mail accounts, which have always worked in Outloook 2003/Express etc. Therefore, I am aware of SMTP authentication, and the different server port numbers. problem is that I can receive, but I can't send. I have a new PC (previously used Windows XP) and I am trying Windows Mail for the first time....on Vista. I am asked to log onto my server everytime that Mail tries to send out. (Annoying!!) This happens in all my accounts. Shot in the dark....is it my new IP address. |

I don't think that I have anything enabled, but the title of the dialogue box that keeps asking me to Log into my accounts, has "Windows" Security" on it. I don't have any other virus scanner on it. | | Re: Previously working e-mail accounts not working in new Windows You likely have email scanning installed/enabled, if you got McAfee bundled with your new machine and McAfee is one of the three biggest troublemakers in the world of Windows Mail. Disabling the email scanning is usually not sufficient, thee normal cure is to uninstall McAfee, run their debris removal tool to clean up the crud the uninstaller leaves behind, then do a custom re-install where you can elect to NOT install any form of email scanning. http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocumen...107083&lc=1033 How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee consumer products using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe) Hal -- Hal Hostetler, CPBE -- hhh@xxxxxx Senior Engineer/MIS -- MS MVP-Print/Imaging -- WA7BGX http://www.kvoa.com -- "When News breaks, we fix it!" | | Re: Previously working e-mail accounts not working in new Windows Windows Mail is not compatible with McAfee. If you don't want to get rid of McAfee, your only other option is upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects from overly aggressive antivirus programs. http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview Either way, email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons explained here: http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tuto...ning/index.htm -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "ciwstudybabe" <ciwstudybabe@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:3D36A3C2-155B-43B9-9BD6-DBB4BDA45CE4@xxxxxx Quote: > As it is a brand new PC, I have six -months subscription left on my McAfee > Security Suite.
