help! unable to send email with windows mail??

I was able to send and receive until 5 minutes ago, I tried to send an email
and got this error message
The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was 'lauralandolfi@xxxxxx'. Subject 'Re:
playdate', Account: 'pop.att.yahoo.com', Server: 'smtp.att.yahoo.com',
Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '530 authentication required - for help go
to http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/sbc/ds...op/pop-11.html', Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 530, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

I have checked my smtp settings and they seem to be fine (no authentication
required) I did not change anything between teh time I was able to send and
the time I was unable to... help???

The published settings for that server have not recommended port 25
for a long time. Change your port and SSL settings to agree with:

Re: help! unable to send email with windows mail??

US-based free Yahoo accounts have webmail access only,
no POP access. Windows Mail handles POP mail but not
webmail. There are two Yahoo solutions:

1. How did you access Yahoo mail before? If you are happy with
webmail via your browser, you can continue to use that.

2. Pay Yahoo to get their premium "Mail Plus" service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mai...iew/index.html
and use the special settings for that service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mai...op/pop-14.html

If you are OK with using a non-Yahoo email address, you have two other
solutions:
3. Use the email address assigned to you by your ISP.
4. Get a free Gmail account.

Re: help! unable to send email with windows mail??

Many thanks for the options. I already am signed up for yahoo plus and entered the settings and spoken to yahoo help. It's the logon window that goes with authentication that fails me. I will probable take up your option to drop Yahoo for something else. It would be nice to know why Yahoo cannot fix this or offer an explanation. Is it such a mystery?
Many thanks. Jim
