Thread mark as read

Hello,
using Newsgroups with Windows Mail is evil or I do not understand the
meaning of
Edit->Mark as Read
and
Edit->Mark Conversation as Read

e.g. I go down into a thread of a conversation and I want to mark (only) the
branch of one Conversation as Read. What should I do?
This is one of the most popular functions for newsgroup readers!
Please give me an advice. Perhaps I should use some other program
(thunderbird ...)

Hello

Thanks for your answer that possibility I recognized for myself.

Another perhaps quicker method is to collapse the branch (in front of it
should be the plus sign) mark this first message an press Ctrl-Q.
