You need to check with your ISP. It looks like they expect out going mail to
be directed to port 465. WM may be set to use port 25, which is the
default/standard SMTP (Simple Mail Transport Protocol) port.

Re: Can't send mail on Windows Mail

As her error message shows, Sharon is using the correct port (465).

How do you know this? The ISP could have switched from 465 to 25. This
doesn't account for the email client program that must be configured to use
the correct port in either case. For all you know, WM could have totally
hosed it.

One never assume anything in trouble shooting or problem solving. Now maybe,
you're right there with the person doing the pointing and clicking with the
mouse and using the keyboard.

Re: Can't send mail on Windows Mail

I don't assume anything when troubleshooting. However,
the specific error message, compared with the ISP's published
email settings, will almost always reveal the exact cause
for the problem.

I have had plenty more that my share of problems and resolutions with
Outlook, OE and WM to know what I am looking at with email problems. On top
of that, there is not that many of them and it's the same ones, over and
over.
