| | Re: Can't See Applets Sunshine, from your message, it's not clear to me if applets display for you in IE and if you only get the message when trying to view one in Windows Mail. Also, whether you have 32bit or 64bit Vista might make a difference. You may want to look at the attached. In the zipped file is an embedded EOT example that should display fine for you in Windows Mail with the standard stationery settings. Also, there's a simple 'applet in iframe' example that was a .nws file renamed as an .mht file. You should be able to see the applet since the .mht file opens in IE (if you can see applets in IE like here: http://www.anfyteam.com). If you save the .mht file to your hard drive and then rename it back to a .nws file as it was posted originally, it may work fine for you or it may crash your Windows Mail. If it doesn't work for you renamed back as a .nws file, the problem may be DEP. I am aware of at least one person turning off UAC, disabling DEP and then turning UAC back on and then applet stationeries using the 'applet in iframe' method worked fine for them in Windows Mail and the Windows Mail crashing problem was eliminated. I'm not advising anyone to turn off DEP and since applet stationeries using the 'applet in iframe' method work fine for me in Vista Windows Mail with DEP and UAC on (by default), I'm leaving the DEP discussion to others. In any case here's a link that the person who turned off DEP posted. http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/0...windows-vista/ You may want to look on the applets group on news.annexcafe.com for more about this. Applets stationeries created using the 'applet in iframe' method work fine for me in Vista Windows Mail, but this seems not to be the case for everyone with Vista. At this point my guess is that it's about half and half. They do seem to work fine for everyone with XP. Applet stationeries created the old way as they have been done for years will not display the applet for anyone with Sun JRE only installed, not in OE, and not in Windows Mail. You would have to install MS JVM to view them and I advise against doing so since it is no longer supported: http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/java/default.mspx ....but that's something that everyone will have to decide for themselves. Many people getting new PCs with Vista are opting not to install MS JVM which I think is the better decision. Hope this helps. Richard "Sunshine" <Sunshine@xxxxxx> wrote in message news BD7CE83-DE74-4F0A-B157-E9EB30468F4F@xxxxxxI was reading a thread on stationery applets and eots. I have just purchased a laptop with Windows Vista on it, therefore, I am forced to use Windows Mail. I cannot see applets or eots in my stationery groups. I have the latest version of Sun Java installed. When I click on an applet to open it, I get a message to install an addon in IE. However, when I click the install, Windows will not allow it to insall. Really hope someone is able to help me work this one out. Thanks, Sunshine |
