Ok, I've run the MacAfee and Norton removals as suggested; neither put
things right. I am still unable to send messages.
I don't know what is on the backup disc either; it is a set of three discs
that I am assuming will format the hard drive and put all the original
programs back in place. I agree this is the drastic move, however, if I can
get this working I can deal with reloading my other programs over the next
week or so. I've been unable to send mail for almost a month now...
As for trying an alternate email program I think I have a 'change-phobia'.
If I can restore my computer to original just-bought-it condition, then when
I load my trend micro virus program, I will ensure that I tell it not to
check my email... Would this perhaps keep this problem from happening in
the future? or is it a crap-shoot.
