| | Suddenly can't get Windows Mail When I try and receive new mail, I get a security log on box asking me for my user name and password. When I type it in, it won't accept! What is going on here? I have never seen this before. Thanks. |

Go to tools>accounts>select your account>properties>server tab and insert your UN/PW combo there, try that? What antivirus program are you using? If it is set to scan mail, stop it from doing so, you may have to remove the A/V application if it is one of the more popular paid for type? Please copy and paste any complete error messages that you receive. -- Regards Steve. MS-MVP. MAIL. [DTS] UK. http://www.getsafeonline.org/ |

No answer to this type of thing, except to say click on the + sign next to the original, but if they don't know how to do that small thing, then they will not see this advice. |

| | Re: Suddenly can't get Windows Mail I'm having the same problem. I've gone in Trend Anti-Virus and checked that I did not want to scan incoming or outgoing emails. I've also checked my POP3 and SMTP info to make sure it was correct. Is that what was meant by the UN/PW combo? Or have I missed something else? | | Re: Suddenly can't get Windows Mail If you are sure you are using the correct username and password, one possible cause for that error is account corruption. One thing you might try as a possible quick fix is to delete that corrupted account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate that mail account. If that doesn't fix it, more drastic measures will have to be taken. Which antivirus are you running? As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off, although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects. In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled. If turning off the email scanning function does not resolve your problem, consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects from overly aggressive antivirus programs. http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons explained here: http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tuto...ning/index.htm -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "readingtln" <readingtln@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:4688CA6C-9D61-4C34-A263-334BC08BCEBE@xxxxxx Quote: > I'm having the same problem.
