| | Windows Live Mail missing key components Ok, fellows, I have downloaded and installed the Windows Live Mail, trying my best to repair the restarting problem. Alas, this also has the same problem. Either the problem was carried over from the Windows Mail program, during the upgrade, or I have a serious internal mess that no one seems to be able to grasp on to. When opening the WLM program, I try to open an attachment, which causes the program to restart. When it restarts, I can open the attachment. It seems this is the same problem, whether or not I have the Norton Internet Security mail scan option turned on or off. Sometimes it does the same thing when I try to save an attachment to another directory or file, such as "Pictures". I believe I have wasted my time upgrading, as there are not only features I used extensively with Windows Mail, that are not available in this new WLM, but several of my contacts were either missing the addresses, or weren't there at all. Now I am not only disappointed with Microsoft, I am angry, especially since I can't properly edit an email I wish to forward, and delete all the garbage that is hidden behind in the scripting through it's Source. | | Re: Windows Live Mail missing key components If you want to elaborate on apparent missing features in Windows Live Mail, I may be able to clarify or offer workarounds. If you are disappointed with Windows Live Mail, you can uninstall it, and Windows Mail will be back just like before. Several users who had similar failures with both Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail had success by switching to a non-MS program: http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird The drawback is that it will not readily import anything from the MS email programs. If you want to pursue a solution for Windows Mail, uninstall your antivirus. Just disabling Norton is often insufficient, and you must follow up with the special removal tool, because a Norton uninstall leaves a lot of problematic debris behind. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Terry" <ghosty191@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:OCA%23PqKLJHA.3496@xxxxxx Quote: > Ok, fellows, I have downloaded and installed the Windows Live Mail, trying my best to repair the restarting problem. | | Re: Windows Live Mail missing key components The only problem I seem to have noticed with the WLM is it is missing the editing option while forwarding a previous email containing much debris of garbage in it's source. That was how I cleaned up emails that contained graphics and text and along the way, during numerous forwards it gathered up many hidden links, etc., which I deleted quickly and easily using the Source option. That was how I sent out clean emails to family and friends. Now I will have to forward the "dirty" emails to my old computer, running XP and OLEXP, where I can clean them up before resending them out. That will be time consuming and quite annoying. | | Re: Windows Live Mail missing key components Yes, you're right, WLMail does not have the ability to edit the HTML source code. The only other workaround is to copy the contents into Notepad, do your editing there, then paste the edited contents. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Terry" <ghosty191@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:OHZEb$LLJHA.5972@xxxxxx Quote: > The only problem I seem to have noticed with the WLM is it is missing > the editing option while forwarding a previous email containing much > debris of garbage in it's source. | | Re: Windows Live Mail missing key components That does not work, because notepad only picks up the copied plain text. The HTML or Rich Text is all missing, so that defeats the purpose. That could be done by just changing the format to Plain Text in the first place instead of copy/paste to Notepad. Since upgrading to WLM didn't fix the initial problem, I shall probably go back to Windows Mail after all. Thank you Gary, for trying to help a lady in distress. | | Re: Windows Live Mail missing key components I agree that editing source code or even creating new source code is ESSENTIAL to emailing for countless reasons. I have not tried WLM but even Yahoo! webmail has the ability to remove "debris" from the face of the email. With Yahoo! either clicking reply/forward as attachment allows you to highlight various items and clicking cut/delete or using the backspacing key to get rid of unwanted debris. Have you attempted that in WLM? I am saddened to think that Windows Mail will be obsolete and that the ability to access source code is not available within WLM. Also it upsets me that this new windows email program - mail - has removed it. Other than that it looks very good - includes a spellchecker. Early days - though as I've just began using it today. |
