windows mail error

I have been getting the below error from another email on another login on
the same PC the setup STMP and POP3 work on a seperate PC but when I try
seeting up the same setting on the same PC I have two logins I get this
mesage;

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Colleen', Server:
'xxxxxxxx.yourwebhosting.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I have readt through this string and have tried most things listed
I do have Norton system works 2009 I have tried with it installed and
uninstalled as well.

I am out of ideas???????

I have tried port 25 (which works on another PC) but on this one it doesn't.
I have tried port 587 not working either.

anyhelp would be greatly appreciated

Re: windows mail error

I assume your problem is with receiving, since the error message you
supplied pertains to receiving.
Ports 25 and 587 do not affect receiving, since they are for sending.

The error message is difficult to evaluate since you X'd out part of
the server name. Perhaps the error is in the 'xxxxxxxx' part of the
server name.

Re: windows mail error

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop', Server:
'pop.broadband.rogers.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
I keep getting the same error and cant figure out what to do about it.

Re: windows mail error

Your settings are fine.
That type of error is usually caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off your antivirus email scanning function does not resolve
your problem, consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it
is less prone to suffering bad effects from overly intrusive antivirus
programs: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

Re: windows mail error

Gary thank you for replying, I xed out the server in there. I have since
worked it out on my own, My provider was migrating to a new server and they
didn't even know what to tell since i was using windows mail. what I ended up
doing was the SMTP and POP ended up being a totally different address.

again thank you though.
