Cannot send messages

I didn't even know I had Window's e-mail but I think it's the same address as
my providers one - through Quest, but not sure.
I was sending a note to a teacher from the school's website and Window's
Mail came up to use to send it through. It use to be Qwest's e-mail that it
would went through.
Anyway, when I went to send it this message popped up:
The host SMTP could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the
server name correctly. Acct POP3 server SMTP protocol SMTP Port:25, Secure
SSL, No Socket Error 11001 Error Number 0x800CCC0D.
When I went back into Window's e-mail my message showed up in my outbox but
"not sent". It would not let me send it from there either- same message.

Help, please.

Re: Cannot send messages

Qwest has three different email systems, so not knowing what type of
account you have with them, I can't advise you directly on how to set up
Windows Mail for Qwest. Follow these directions:
http://www.qwest.com/internethelp/email/

Re: Cannot send messages

I go into Hotmail and put in my quest e-mail info. I don't even want to use
Window e-mail but it is what came up when I tried to email someone from the
school website. I would rather use the hotmail/quest one like I use to.

Re: Cannot send messages

In that case, apply the fix that sets Hotmail as your default email service:

Re: Cannot send messages

I pretty much need step by step directions here unless someone does house
calls. :-)
Also on another guys note< his name was Gary, he seems to have the same
problem, how do you turn the SSL off?

Re: Cannot send messages

Hmmm, that link I gave you does seem to give step-by-step instructions.
Which step seems unclear to you?

The SSL option is accessed here:
In Windows Mail go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties,
Advanced.

Re: Cannot send messages

Still getting this message: Qwest is our provider and to use our email
address through quest we go into Hotmail, sign in using our email address
from Quest and then when you're logged in it shows that "Quest mail by
Windows Live"
I can use this email account fine. it's the "Window's Mail" I am having
problems with. When I try to send a message from it I get this message.
Also, when I try to send a message from another website i.e. I was in my
son's school website and wanted to e-mail a teacher when I clicked on his
e-mail Window's Mail comes up. It woud be nice to just have our Qwest email
account come up because I don't have any problems with that; when I hit reply
Windows Mail comes up for me to send the message from that e-mail account. I
try and still get this message. I am sure you are tired of trying to help me
and that is fine, I'm about done trying too.

The host 'SMTP' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the
server name correctly.
Subject '', Account: 'POP3', Server: 'SMTP', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

I tried to get Hotmail as my default, but I guess it didn't work.

Re: Cannot send messages

Windows Mail does not work with Live or Hotmail accounts.
You will need to upgrade to Windows Live Mail:
