| | Windows Mail won't open from IE7 read mail button Don't know what I did to have this happen... But I was getting an error message when clicking on a mailto url on a web page that the default mail client was was not installed. I finally got that straightened out, but in the process of trying different remedies I have now somehow disabled the "read mail" button on the IE7 tool bar. I'm guessing that it has something to do with permissions in the registry in the mailto entry, which I altered. Can someone tell me exactly how the permissions are supposed to be configured...I should have backed up the registry key before making a change but did not! Windows Mail still opens fine from my quick launch shortcut. Thanks, Bob |

| | Re: Windows Mail won't open from IE7 read mail button Not sure if this will fix that problem, but it is worth a try: The following procedure will rewrite the default protocol assignments in the registry: Open the Default Programs applet, then click on "Set program access and computer defaults." Expand the Custom selection, and under "Choose a default web browser" select Internet Explorer. Click OK. Then repeat that procedure for "Choose a default e-mail program". Select Windows Mail. Click OK. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Bob" <luna5nospam@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:Ougi3CROJHA.1164@xxxxxx Quote: > Don't know what I did to have this happen... > But I was getting an error message when clicking on a mailto url on a web page that the default mail client was was not > installed. | | Re: Windows Mail won't open from IE7 read mail button Thanks Gary, That didn't work but it got me looking around I found that by going into the "set your default" programs section and selecting Windows Mail then "choose your defaults" menu. There is a selection for Start Menu and it was not checked and after checking it Windows Mail now opens normally from the IE7 button.
