| | Re: Cannot send or receive email in windows mail Check your settings. Go to Tools, Accounts, select that mail account, click Properties, Servers. Uncheck the box for "Log on using Secure Password Authentication." If it was already unchecked, which antivirus are you running? -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "fredr" <fredr@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:E6395AFF-387F-4888-88E4-4EC9E75E9A13@xxxxxx Quote: > Help > All of a sudden I have been getting this message > Account: 'mail.comcast.net (1)', Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: > POP3, Server Response: '-ERR invalid command', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, > Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18 |

| | Re: Cannot send or receive email in windows mail You're very welcome. Thanks for reporting back. If you had that setting checked, it will definitely cause that problem. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "fredr" <fredr@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:E3AB688E-999E-4600-9ED3-2426260A1550@xxxxxx Quote: > Gary > > I unchecked the box. | | Re: Cannot send or receive email in windows mail I also have a sony viao. Have similar problem which started soon after setting up my new laptop. Emails are sending but not receiving. The error box is mostly empty (strange) but gave this same message on one occasion. I have the box unchecked. Not aware that I have anti virus sortware installed as yet. thanks "Gary VanderMolen" wrote: Quote: > You're very welcome. | | Re: Cannot send or receive email in windows mail Most new computers come with a trial version of McAfee or Norton antivirus. To avoid Windows Mail problems, those antivirus programs must be uninstalled properly, and followed up by using the appropriate cleanup tool. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "kerfuffled" <kerfuffled@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:82679599-6622-45D9-B6CB-35AF6A0B1A0F@xxxxxx Quote: >I also have a sony viao.
