| Basic | Opening multiple attachments stopping Mail working I am so frustrated!!! Every single time I open a 2nd attachment in my email, mail stops working "Windows mail has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem"; or worse that it can't find a solution to the problem! What settings do I need to change in Mail? Why is this happening? I do have Norton 2008 installed - could this somhow be the problem? Thanks Jen |

| | Re: Opening multiple attachments stopping Mail working That is a known issue caused by a recent update to Norton antivirus. There may be a newer update that corrects the problem, so first try updating Norton. If no joy, uninstall and follow up with their debris removal tool: http://service1.symantec.com/Support...05033108162039 We can recommend a more compatible free antivirus. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "JenSAuser" <guest@xxxxxx-email.com> wrote in message news:444bc174558a3b722c58c3c62809631b@xxxxxx-gateway.com... | | Re: Opening multiple attachments stopping Mail working Hi, I have de same problem with attachments. I also use Norton, but updating it doesn't solve the problem. Also, an extra problem is that when the program closes when trying to open an attachment in a mail obtained in a search, repeating afterwards the same search doesn't give the same results. All the mails that had been obtained in the search when the program closed seem to disapear from the indexes or whatever it is that Windows Mail uses to do the searches. That is a very very serious problem. How can I get those mails to be searchable again? I depend very much on beeing able to search old mails, I extremely need to be able to rely on the searches. Thanks. "Gary VanderMolen" wrote: Quote: > You're very welcome. Thanks for the feedback. | | Re: Opening multiple attachments stopping Mail working Norton antivirus is among the top three troublemakers for Windows Mail. Symptoms often don't surface until several months have gone by, or until an update occurs. First, be sure to disable its email scanning. If that does not cure the problem, do a trial uninstall, followed by using their debris removal tool: http://service1.symantec.com/Support...05033108162039 Instead of uninstalling your antivirus, another option is to upgrade to Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of overly intrusive antivirus products: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview In any case you must disable antivirus email scanning, for the reason explained here: http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tuto...ning/index.htm -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Rafel" <Rafel@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:33337CC3-E1DC-4430-A84E-729A35556B49@xxxxxx Quote: > Hi, I have de same problem with attachments. | | Re: Opening multiple attachments stopping Mail working Ok, thank-you, I'll follow your advice, I'm quite angry with this trouble Norton produces. Will that solve the problem with the mails wich have become unsearchable or unfoundable through searches? R. | | Re: Opening multiple attachments stopping Mail working At Norton have given me finally a link to update to 2009 version, suposed to be compatible with Vista and now the problem with the attachments seems to be solved. But still I'm not able to find, through searching, the mails that were in the "search" window every time Windows Mail crashed when opening an attachment in a mail found through a search. How can I solve that? | | Re: Opening multiple attachments stopping Mail working About time Norton came out with something compatible with Vista. ;-) I'm not sure how to solve your search problem. If it was me, I'd upgrade to Windows Live Mail, and hopefully that will fix the problem. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Rafel" <Rafel@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:655B6066-B2E2-47A3-9A6B-102AFDA1BD8F@xxxxxx Quote: > At Norton have given me finally a link to update to 2009 version, suposed to > be compatible with Vista and now the problem with the attachments seems to be > solved. | | Re: Opening multiple attachments stopping Mail working Buffff, the fact is I would prefer to avoid another change of mail program. I had to quit Outlook express when I got Vista and it seems this change was not as good, as the suggestion is changing again. It's also somehow discuraging that no answer cant be found on how to reconstruct de search system of Windows Mail. I'll obviously have to consider changing, but changing to a program of the same firm because the firm doesn't know how to solve a problem in a previous program doesn't give much confidence.... :-( "Gary VanderMolen" wrote: Quote: > About time Norton came out with something compatible with Vista. ;-) > > I'm not sure how to solve your search problem.
