All of a sudden I can no longer go back and find the news messages I have
posted in my "Sent Items" folder?

In my Tools > Options > Send I can see that the box "Save copy of sent
messages in the 'Sent Items' folder" is checked so what can be wrong?

SORRY - my fault: I don't know when that may have happened but the View
options on the sent items folder had been changed.
