| vista home premium | Changed Email Address and Now Have Problems I changed email addresses but have the same ISP. Just a new address. I copied all of my old email messages and contacts. My husband went ahead without me and instead did an import of our old email address into the new one and now I cannot get rid of all the old recovered stuff. Question 1. Can I just delete that email address and start over with a new address minus old email addy imports? Question 2. Since this is a new email address, is it possible to place copies of some of my saved messages in this new address in some way or do I have to just keep the copies on my computer in a file somewhere? |

"Bumping up" without previous messages is dumb. Try again with a "full"description of your problem. |

| vista home premium | Re: Changed Email Address and Now Have Problems Sorry about that Richard. I am new to the forum and first time with a mail issue so I apologize for not posting the entire problem over again. Just really need some help. Any is appreciated. Problem: I changed email addresses but have the same ISP. Just a new address. I copied all of my old email messages and contacts and placed a copy on my desktop. My husband went ahead without me while I wasn't home and instead did an import of our old email address into the new one and now I cannot get rid of all the old recovered stuff. Question 1. Can I just delete that email address and start over with a new address minus old email addy imports? Do I need to go into the file in my computer to make sure all instances of my old address (minus the desktop file I saved) are gone? Question 2. Since this is a new email address, is it possible to place copies of some of my saved messages in this new address in some way or do I have to just keep the copies on my computer in a file somewhere like I have on my desktop? |

If you copied the "local folder" that has the inbox, outbox, etc. then you need to import the messages into your current account. How did you "copy" your contacts? Did you print them out? Did you copy the folder? What? Be much more specific on how you got into this mess. And when your ISP gave you a new email address, why did you not just change the account settings to incorporate the new address. Then you would have all of your messages and contacts available without having to do anything. |

Did you copy the folder? What? Be much more specific on how you got into this mess. And when your ISP gave you a new email address, why did you not just change the account settings to incorporate the new address. Then you would have all of your messages and contacts available without having to do anything. On the messages: I exported them to a file into documents and burned a copy onto a dvd. I also did the same to the contacts. Both are on a backup dvd disc just in case. As far as when they gave me a new email address I was not aware that I could do as you suggested with just changing settings. I am by far not an expert when it comes to going in and tweaking stuff, just your average home user. My ISP sent me an email telling me my new address was ready to go from their end but did not offer any explanations on what to do to implement it. I assumed that I would need to go in and just add my new account and then copy my old messages into that new account. The problem came in (i.e. "the mess" you refer to) when my husband decided to go ahead while I was not home and believe me, he only knows enough to be dangerous! He went in and imported the old account, not just messages and contacts, into the new account I had created. Then right in the middle of it, he decided maybe that was the wrong thing to do and stopped the import in the middle of things. This is how I ended up with fragments everywhere. So at this point, I deleted the newly created account and have set up another to begin again. Hopefully this will explain things better for you. So I can just copy the messages from the old account to the new account and this will fix things? |
