| | Bug: Failure importing Outlook email I'm trying to import email that I exported to a PST file on my old system. On my new system with Vista I have the account all setup and then I selected: File-->Import-->Messages... The "Windows Mail Import" dialog pops up. I then select "Microsoft Outlook" and hit "Next" and then it gets slammed by a bug telling me "Messages cannot be imported from the MAPI client. An error has occurred." In other words I never get to the point where it lets me select my PST file. As soon as I tell it what kind of email it will be importing it bombs out. |

| | Re: Failure importing Outlook email Windows Mail can't open a .pst file by itself. It needs Outlook installed in order to do that. That's what the MAPI client is. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "scs0" <scs0@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:f5cf5cbc-cc8e-4ce5-94f1-ca16598589e7@xxxxxx Quote: > I'm trying to import email that I exported to a PST file on my old > system. I suggest that if you're going to be a MS lapdog you ought to spend a little more time solving people's problems and a less time being a "Subject line" policeman. "That's what the MAPI client is for" WTF is a MAPI client? Is it any wonder those Mac ads are resonating with the public? |

| | Re: BUG: Failure importing Outlook email It's not a "bug". It's just the way it is. Only Outlook can open a .pst file, so Outlook has to be installed in order to do anything with a .pst file. You can install Outlook, copy the .pst to the Vista computer, open the .pst with Outlook, then you can import into Windows Mail. Or, If you have Outlook installed on an XP computer, import the .pst data into Outlook Express, copy the .dbx files and .wab file to the Vista computer, and import into Windows Mail. -- Vista Home Premium 32 SP1 http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview http://download.live.com/wlmail "scs0" <scs0@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:63dace94-dcfe-4dbf-b472-1d8701687a45@xxxxxx Quote: > On Nov 30, 12:36 am, "Gary VanderMolen" <G...@xxxxxx> wrote: Quote: >> Windows Mail can't open a .pst file by itself. | | Re: BUG: Failure importing Outlook email It's not a bug. Microsoft never meant to implement a migration path from Outlook to one of their free email clients. That's certainly not a recommended move since the free clients have way fewer features, as you would expect. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "scs0" <scs0@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:63dace94-dcfe-4dbf-b472-1d8701687a45@xxxxxx On Nov 30, 12:36 am, "Gary VanderMolen" <G...@xxxxxx> wrote: Quote: > Windows Mail can't open a .pst file by itself.
