| | Mail rule not wotking Windows mail running on Vista Business I have a rule of the type.. When the From line contains myfriend@xxxxxx or When the To line contains myfriend@xxxxxx then Move it to the MyFriends Folder I have promoted the rule to the top of the rules list. However it does NOT sort her mail frokm the incoming mail stream If I select the rule explicity and Apply it to the Messages box, then it works OK Now maybe I'm stupid but that doesn't make sense does it? New rules aren't applied automatically to messages that have already arrived; only on messages that arrive in the Inbox later. Robert |

| | Re: Mail rule not wotking That rule has some shortcomings in that it does not catch CC or BCC addressed emails. It would be better to sort on the account if there is a dedicated account for it. Also, when you have more than one rule, each rule must be terminated by "Stop processing more rules". -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) <eonsol@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:tPOdnZTK0acPf9PUnZ2dnUVZ8imdnZ2d@xxxxxx Quote: > Windows mail running on Vista Business > > I have a rule of the type.. > > When the From line contains myfriend@xxxxxx > or > When the To line contains myfriend@xxxxxx > then > Move it to the MyFriends Folder > > I have promoted the rule to the top of the rules list. > However it does NOT sort her mail frokm the incoming mail stream > > If I select the rule explicity and Apply it to the Messages box, then it > works OK > > Now maybe I'm stupid but that doesn't make sense does it? > > Eddie |

| | Re: Mail rule not working I have about 40 rules I accept your point about emails in CC list, but the ones that are not getting sorted have the address in the From and To fields only. her address also appears in the ReplyTo field of her incoming mail. Also, the rule works OK if I use "Tools, Message Rules, Mail, Apply Now" and apply it to mail that is in the Messages box, having not been sorted when it initially arrived. I think it must be the "Stop Processing More Rules" which I've now added to all the rules. Her mails were ending-up in my "Personal" mail folder and this is the last rule in the list... When the To line contains me@xxxxxx then Move it to the Personal Folder I assumed that once a rule was triggered, it would automatically move-on to the next incoming email and not continue applying the other rules! Thanks for the tip. I'll report back when I've confirmed that it worked. | | Re: Mail rule not wotking Yes it does. It means there is another rule that applies to the messages. In step 2 where you select actions also select "Stop processing more rules". If that does not fix it, double check all data for typographical errors. A missing or misplaced "-", "." or "_" will throw things off. | | Re: Mail rule not working I conform that "Stop Processing More Rules" solved the problem Surely this should be the default and there should be an explicit option to "Continue processing more rules" ?
