Vista - Having Outlook as default mail

How do I make Outlook 2003 as the default email program on Vista? I
downloaded Outlook 2003, checked it for default, but I can't find where to
"undefault" WM.

I've got the same issue as TMS, but I think I've tracked my partic problem down to incomplete registration (?) of Outlook 2003.
My system is Vista 32 Home Premium, with Office 2003 Basic; all updates & fixes applied

When I use Set Default Programs, Outlook does NOT appear in the program list, so I can't set it as the default email client there. Yet Picasa photo viewer, which I have installed recently, DOES appear. Within Outlook Tools/Options I have cleared and reset the Make Outlook the default email application checkbox. Still same issue.

I find WinMail.exe listed as the application in registry HK_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto, but I guess this wd be fixed if Outlook appeared in the Apps list of Set Program defaults.

I have tried Outlook Help/Detect and Repair... to no avail, even after a reboot (just in case)

I remember that I simply ran Office Setup.EXE, instead of Run as Administrator, so I had to execute Outlook.EXE as Admin at a later stage. I wonder if I'm forced to Uninstall/Reinstall :-(

I see many people are having problems with mailto hyperlinks not starting Outlook, but it's not clear to me if their symptoms are the same as mine (not seeing Outlook in Set Defaults)

Hope you can help or point me/us to other sources

Is the cause known? Is it because I clicked Setup 'Run' instead of 'Run as Admin'?
