Vista - MAPI error on import from outlook

I am trying to move my girl firends PST files from Outlook 2007 to Windows Mail on Vista 64. I have installed Outlook 2007 installed and I still get the MAPI error message. I tried buying Aid4mail software which is supposed to do the conversion. All it did was cost me $50US and hang the computer. It looks like my only option is to try and get an XP computer and convert to Outlook Express and then to Windows mail. I have so far spent about 8 hours trying to solve this. I wonder if Microsoft cares at all about how much tiime it now takes to get things like this working in Windows. I think it is pretty sad that this situation exists. Why would you introduce Windows Mail with no easy way to get your old mail into it? Is this some sort of marketing scheme to suck more money out of us somehow? I am very unhappy and dissatisfied with all the overhead time I have to spend just to make things run on my computer. Something has to change or there will be some form of user revolt against Windows.

Yup, same problem here. It's bloody ridiculous - I have Outlook 2007 installed but I get the MAPI error when trying to import into Windows Mail. There doesn't appear to be any information for this scenario.

The only things I can think this could relate to are the fact that I'm using X64 or (more likely) because I store the PST files on a separate drive. However, even if that is the case the PST files are still registered in Outlook. I just tried dragging emails from my normal PST files into a newly created PST saved in the default location and I still get the error. Useless!
