| | Can't configure Outlook 2007 with Gmail or hotmail running Vista Okay here’s the deal. I’m stubborn and I don’t believe the facts I’m facing. My Vista laptop won’t talk to hotmail or gmail with out me manually logging on one of these two sites. I’ve tried using Windows Mail and Microsoft Offices Outlook 2007 for software. I’ve tried changing the configuration strings around so many times it looks like a Chinese puzzle. I’m convinced that Outlook Express has become a futgitive and won’t return back anymore. My configurations’ are pretty much universal and they can pretty be applied to almost any email pop or smtp or live server A big 6 inch thick book with 1450 paged called ‘Microsoft Office 2007 Inside Out says Outlook and Gmail are compatible in one sentence and then about 3 sentences later says no it’s not unless you have a paid ISP such as Hotmail Plus, MSN Plus or something where someone’s accepting money for you logging on the net. I’m using free wireless connection from someone else and please don’t tell me that’s the catch right there. These are the most popular settings I’ve found that all match the following email clients I’ve tried that are web-based: Outlook 2007, Windows Mail. These are the configuration settings that I’ve saved, adapted, modified, moved around, covered with duct tape to hold in place and nailed up to get to work unsuccessfully like a broken record. Incoming pop3 : pop.gmail.com port setting was 110 and 995 Outgoing smtp : smtp.gmail.com port settings were 25, 465 and 587 The account ID and logon username are pretty elementary. I did replaced ‘smtp.hotmail.com’ with ‘smtp.live.com’ and got my email progress window to dance around a little bit but the outgoing emails never got any higher than my ceiling never leaving my room. And not computer was locked up tight than Fort Knox so no email came in either. So does anyone have any suggestions or comments concerning how I can Progress? | | Re: Can't configure Outlook 2007 with Gmail or hotmail running Vista This group doesn't support Outlook.... Windows Mail cannot access any webmail account, like most Yahoo and Hotmail accounts. If you pay for the Plus accounts, then you are allowed to access the POP servers. Hotmail/Live Plus account.. http://mailcall.spaces.live.com/Blog...33!44348.entry Yahoo Mail Plus account.. http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mai...op/pop-14.html Gmail now has instructions for enabling POP and for configuring Windows Mail.... http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...y?answer=86382 The newer Windows Live Mail can also access your free Hotmail/Live email account, so I'd recommend using that instead of Windows Mail. -- Vista Home Premium 32 SP2 beta http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview http://download.live.com/wlmail "springtree" <springtree.3ld3fc@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:springtree.3ld3fc@xxxxxx Quote: > > Okay here’s the deal. | | Re: Can't configure Outlook 2007 with Gmail or hotmail running Vista In order for Outlook to handle Hotmail/Live accounts you have to install the Outlook Connector, since free accounts don't get POP access: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en Besides Outlook Connector, Windows Live Mail will handle Hotmail/Live accounts: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview We don't normally support Outlook in this newsgroup. If you want Gmail to work with Windows Mail, we can help you with that. Right-click on your Windows Mail error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "springtree" <springtree.3ld3fc@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:springtree.3ld3fc@xxxxxx Quote: > > Okay here’s the deal.
