Sending attachments shuts down windows mail

Every time I try to send an attachment via email Windows Mail shuts down. I
read the suggestion to upgrade to Windows Live Mail on another thread, but
prefer not to use that program.

Any other suggestions? I've never had this problem until this last week or
so.

Sounds like a corruption somewhere, you don't need to install Windows Live
Mail (that's called flogging a dead horse!!!).

You could try uninstalling some of the more recent Windows up-dates that
have been installed from about the date your problem started, then reinstall
them manually one at a time.
There must have been at least one Win Mail up-date over Christmas which has
changed things, because after the holiday period I now notice that none of
my emails display pictures etc unless I click on a bar that appears above
the message. Although I can send attachments.

Re: Sending attachments shuts down windows mail

Actually, Windows Mail is the dead horse, all development on it having
been stopped in October 2006. There have been no updates to it.
There will be no bug fixes or enhancements.
Uninstalling Windows Updates is not recommended since many of
them are critical security fixes.

Re: Sending attachments shuts down windows mail

If you don't want to take the easy solution, try uninstalling your antivirus.
Windows Mail has compatibility problems with several antivirus products.
Which one are you running?

Windows mail shuts down when insert attachments is selected

My windows mail program automatically shuts itself down when I select
"Insert" then "Attachment". As soon as my attachments open for a brief
moment, the program shuts down. What's strange is that I can send a photo
without issue. This happened last week when I was sending a stupid movie to
a group of friends. The e-mail was successfully sent to the primary group.
I then wanted to send the same movie file to a few other e-mail contacts. I
went to my sent e-mail folder, clicked on the e-mail just sent to the first
group, hit the forward button to save a few steps by not needing to re-type
the e-mail message. I then deleted the original group of recipients from
this e-mail so that the new group didn't have to read that information and
when I attempted to send it, it shut down. From that point on Windows Mail
has immediately shut down every time I attempt to send an attachment.
As a business owner, I need to be able to send attachments on a regular
basis. Working with contractors, I routinely receive drawings, sketches,
etc. from project sites and have to send these attachments with internal
documentation to my other subcontractors for pricing. Most incoming e-mail
attachments are saved to a job folder and later used as an outgoing
attachment in a separate e-mail. The only work around I've found at the
office is to print the attachment and fax it (very time consuming and not
practical with large format drawings) for the time being or to forward the
file to my home e-mail account or another internal office e-mail account and
send it to the intended recipient from there.

Re: Windows mail shuts down when insert attachments is selected

Try compacting and repairing the database. See www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/

It might also help to remove your mail account, close and reopen WinMail and
then add the account back again.
