    Opening Attachments in Windows Mail

I have just started using Vista Windows Mail. I received an attachment
(word doc from Office 2002). When I double click on the attachment to open
it I get an error message saying that "This file does not have a program
associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the
Set Associations control panel." I have looked in control panel but can't
find any reference to Set Associations Help please?
    Thanks

Do you have Microsoft Word or the free Word Viewer installed?
If yes, can you open the document outside of Windows Mail by saving
the attachment first? If yes, apply this fix:

Re: Opening Attachments in Windows Mail

I installed the PowerPoint 07 viewer so I can view .pps files that people
send to me. I use Microsoft Mail in Windows Vista. Everytime I try to open
up a .pps attachment I get the following error:

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this
action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel.

I can open the file only if I save it and open it from that saved location.

I would rather not save these files. Can't I just double click to launch it
    from within Mail?

Thanks for writing your solution. I tried that solution before posting my
problem. No joy. Any other ideas? My current workaround is to drag the
file to the desktop, viewing the file and then dragging the file to the
    recycle bin.

Re: Opening Attachments in Windows Mail

Thank you for your reply. However, I tried that before I made my post. I
still get the same error message. I followed the suggestion very carefully.
No joy. I currently am dragging .pps attachments to the desktop, double
click to view, then drag to the recycle bin. It would be great if I could
launch these attachments straight from Windows Mail.
