By a reinstall of my Vista home basic, after the reset of backup local folder the most names of the local folders ware changed !! It was a catastrof, hours work to repair all the names ! After repair by control of the local folders,i see again that there the names are not the same as y the windows mail program ! See annexe clipboard01 For ex: Geneanet reactie = Geneanet re d76
Why are the names changed ?

It looks to me like the long file names were not saved properly in your
backup. How did you make your backup copy?

What you see on the left site on the clipboard01 is not a backup of the local folders, but the local folders self at : E:\Emails\Windows Mails\Local Folders.(This have i setteld in the windows mail program see clipboard10).
The right site let see the local folders names on the windows mail program !
By expiriences i now that by an reinstalll of Vista the names in the windows mail takes the names of E:\Emails\Windows Mails\Local Folders ! Thus not exact as the original names !
The same happened when i exported te local folders !

Ok, Victor, thanks for the added info. I'm now thinking the folder name
problem has something to do with language versioning. Your screenshots show
you're running Windows in Dutch, yet your Windows Mail folder names are both
English and Dutch (Inbox and Postvak IN, for example). Any idea how that
might have happened? I think that might have happened?

Er is ook een nederlandstalige groep op de msnews server:
microsoft.public.nl.windows.vista
Mischien kan je daar ook vragen. Mijn eigen Nederlands is nog steeds een
beetje beperkt, en ik heb bijna geen ervaring met de Nederlands versie van
Windows.

That the basic folder names on E:\Emails\Windows Mails\Local Folders. in english, is a windows aspect and normal !
I had also make 13.01.2009 the question in the : microsoft.public.nl.windows.vista but now response till now !

bevindingen :
1-In het Windows Mail programma heb ik een supmap gemaakt onder Lokale
mappen: Z:test benaming localefolders . Langs de verkenner zie ik in de map
E:/Emails/ Windows Mail/local folders/Z_test ben 416 ! Waarom is die mapnaam
veranderd ? (NB het pad E:/Emails/ Windows Mail/local folders heb ik zelf zo
ingesteld om bij een herinstallatie van vista mijn mails te bewaren)
2- Als ik deze map in de prullebak steek , blijft toch in Windows Mail
programma de map Z:test benaming localefolders bestaan met de betrokken
berichtregels,
alleen kunnen ze niet meer gelezen worden ! Dit lijkt me wel logisch .Zet ik
de map uit de prullebak terug dan staan er in Z:test benaming localefolders ,
dus in het Windows Mail programma, dubbele berichtregels ! Wat gebeurd er
hier in feite achter de schermen ?
3-Bij een vorige herinstallatie van vista vastgesteld dat de mapnamen van de
lokale mappen in het Windows mail programma overgenomen werden van de archief
mappen en dus gewijzigd zoals beschreven in punt 1 ! Hoe dit te voorkomen ?
4- Moet er een speciaal backup programma voor Windows mail gebruikt worden ?
Met de windows vista home basic backup wizard worden er backups gemaakt van
de berichtenarchief mappen maar deze zijn met de gewijzigde mapbenamingen !!
Dus bij terug zetten terug het zelfde probleem als beschreven in punt 3 !

Hmmm. I think I understand what happened now. You mentioned reinstalling
Vista. I suspect you then went into Windows Mail and changed the path to the
store folder to point to the folder you had been using before you
reinstalled, on you E: drive. But that's not the way to restore an old store
folder. You should first redirect WinMail to an empty folder, then close
WinMail and move your backed up mail files into that new folder.

Does that make sense?

Hallo Tom
By expirience I know now that by limiting the foldername to 15 caracters, it dont changes in the archives folders (E:/Emails/ Windows Mail/local folders )!
I make the changes in the windows mail program by creating a new folder with maximum 15 caracters, and move the correspondings mails to this folder; delite the old empty folder; close the windows mail program. And the problem is away see clipboard11 a part of my folder list! Left the archives, right windows mail
Now I am sure that by an following reinstall of Vista the mail folders names rest the same

<smacks head> Of course! I should have thought of that. It's the same with
Identity passwords in OE, 15 character limit. I seem to recall even hearing
about the file name limit from the Windows Mail team back when it was in
development. Sorry not to have thought of that sooner, but I'm glad you
figured it out.
