Vista - Windows Mail - Overwritten all emails in 5 folders with the same email?

Windows Mail has overwritten all emails in 5 folders with the same email?

I have a couple of problems with Vista Windows Mail.

Problem 1:-

In some of my email folders (about 5), I have realised that ALL emails have now taken on the same message body. It is like Windows Mail has overwritten all messages with one random email that existed in the folder. The Subjects, timestamps, addresses are normal/individual, but every email has the same body/message. They used to be individual emails in these folders, but now it is the same email over and over again.

Problem 2:-

Some emails give me the following message when I click on them: It is happening to ALL emails in 1 or two folders.

Message could not be displayed - Windows Mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again.

I hope someone has encountered this problem & knows how to fix it. I have emails dating to 1999 & wouldn't want to lose them because of Windows Mail.

Thanks for reading.

These are symptoms commonly exhibited by an incompatible Antivirus email
scanning application, are you running an A/V email scanner?

Hi Hal,

Thank you for your reply.

I am using AVG as my Anti Virus program. I have the latest one but there was a time where I was running the one that apparently had issues with Vista.

Please quote the message that you are replying to, if it is not available to
all, then we have no way of knowing what you are referring to. ie what Hal
said?

AVG can cause this problem, if it is set to scan mail.

The lord only knows which AV the following refers to: "I was running the one
that apparently had issues", we are not mindreaders. There are several that
WM has issues with.

You need to do several things, uninstall & reinstall AVG without the mail
scan, this is done at the Custom install option offered during the install.

Use the removal tool for the "I was running the one that apparently had
issues", AV Application, to remove all the debris it left behind.

Download and run WMUtil from here:
http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/Default.aspx

When the mail database as been corrupted by a 3rd party application, there
are no guarantees that your mail can be recovered, hopefully you made a
regular backup?

Any questions, get back.

I'm sorry Steve.

I couldn't remember the previous versions of AVG. I guess I should have said so. I have added the quote in my post above so it's easier for people reading via usenet.

I will give what you have said a go.

Thank you for your help.
