| | Attached picture is only showing in email body - Error message if clicked at attachment itself! Hello there, Indeed, a very strange thing happens lately on my WM: When I receive an email with an attached picture (.jpg), it shows up within the email body itself...but when I want to click directly at such attachment, the following error message pops up: ""Windows cannot find .........jpg. Make sure you typed the name correctly."" So it seems that by trying to open it, my system is then actually...SEARCHING for this specific picture within my folders/files, INSTEAD of open it up directly at this spe- cific location; ie. on this received email itself! Mind you, this error does not appear on another user a/c on same PC; so I guess there must be "a faulty path" somewhere on my very own user account...or?? Anyway, for any valuable tips I'd be now very grateful... Regards, Philippe |

PS: Note that when I right-click such picture-attachment and safe it first in my (standard) Picture Folder, no problem to open it up! I'm using the program "Windows Live Photo Gallery", but even when I changed it temporarily to "Paint" (for example only), same error occurs with such attachment on an email. On the other hand I encounter no problem at all to open up a ".doc" or ".pdf" file received as an attachment in an email. So I assume that the path (wherever it is located) for such email attachment with this extension ".jpg" is currently at fault... Bye, Philippe. | | Re: Attached picture is only showing in email body - Error message if clicked at attachment itself! Gary, thanks very much for having responded to my query! Well, I did follow the instructions given on this link of yours ....but unfortunately to no avail. You see, I can open any jpg-picture stored anywhere on my system...except when it happens to be attached on an email. So I agree that it has to be "an issue with the file association" but the error must be lying within "a path" at WM itself...no?? Best regards, Philippe. | | Re: Attached picture is only showing in email body - Error message if clicked at attachment itself! Yes, I understood that you have no problem opening .jpg files outside of Windows Mail. I was hoping the fix in that link would repair WM's interaction with the file association. The only other suggestion I have is to give Windows Live Mail a try: http://download.live.com/wlmail -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (Mail) "Philippe [Switzerland]" <pascal47@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:%23yq$5QiiJHA.3728@xxxxxx Quote: > Gary, thanks very much for having responded to my query! > Well, I did follow the instructions given on this link of yours > ...but unfortunately to no avail. > You see, I can open any jpg-picture stored anywhere on my > system...except when it happens to be attached on an email. > So I agree that it has to be "an issue with the file association" > but the error must be lying within "a path" at WM itself...no?? > Best regards, Philippe. | | Re: Attached picture is only showing in email body - Error message if clicked at attachment itself! Dear Gary and Steve, I surely did very much appreciate your assistance! And now I'm happy to announce that I was able to solve this problem of mine in a "rather simple way": I applied a previous...Restore Point (of last week)! Actually I think that Steve was right in his assumption about such a 3rd party software interference; indeed: Unlike all the other users having the SAME problem, I did NOT obtain this typical standard error message "This file does not have a program associated", but: "Windows cannot find ........jpg. Make sure you typed the name correctly". With best regards to BOTH of you from Switzerland, Philippe Quote: > > news:6070F34C-C376-4D27-A4C5-5CBB1ABAEA47@xxxxxx Quote: > Check for 3rd party software interference: see point 3 here > www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 > > steve > > "Philippe [Switzerland]" <pascal47@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news:%23yq$5QiiJHA.3728@xxxxxx Quote: >> Gary, thanks very much for having responded to my query! >> Well, I did follow the instructions given on this link of yours >> ...but unfortunately to no avail. >> You see, I can open any jpg-picture stored anywhere on my >> system...except when it happens to be attached on an email. >> So I agree that it has to be "an issue with the file association" >> but the error must be lying within "a path" at WM itself...no?? >> Best regards, Philippe. There are three security programs that seem to cause all sorts of similar problems in Windows Mail: Norton, McAfee, and Trend Micro antivirus. Which one are you running?
