Wrong volume is in the drive

I have seen a couple of other posts on the following behaviour but no fix so thought I would post it again.

Mail has suddenly decided to throw an error whenever I click on a link in an email (in the preview pane or within an open message).

A popup appears entitled WinMail.exe - Wrong Volume
"The wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume NB5 Series into drive D:"

If I cancel at this point it then jumps to IE and the page opens as you want.

What is going on? Other posts on the topic have had a different device to "NB5 Series" but the same behaviour.

Hope you can help.

Thanks
Barry

Which IE are you using?

Have you installed any new software recently?

Have you done a full scan with your AV Application?

Download and run http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Get this, update it and run a full scan, remove all it finds.

No solution, just need some more info.

Re: Wrong volume is in the drive

Runing IE7, have AVG and Windows Defender.

No software instals in recent times.

I will run Malware bytes and post what it comes up with.

Thanks

Re: Wrong volume is in the drive

Malwarebytes didn't find anything (only 4 minor items).

Behaviour has not changed.

Any more thoughts?

Is mail scanning active in AVG?

If so, please remove AVG, and reinstall it.

When the option for Custom Install is offered, select it and disable the
mail scan button.

Does this remove the error?

Re: Wrong volume is in the drive

Reinstalling AVG with no mail scan seems to have solved the problem.

Unfortunately, this is at the expense of virus scanning of inbound mail.....
My system was running fine with mail scanning for months before the problem suddenly happened.

I'm wondering if I now reinstall again with mail scanning will things be OK.

Comments?

Thanks for your help.
